In January I went to visit the Philippines, where my family is from, for the first time in 20 years.
This is at a festival called Dinagyang in the capital of my mom's home province, Iloilo City, celebrating Santo Niño and "the arrival on Panay of Malay settlers and the subsequent selling of the island to them by the Atis."
It was an incredible welcoming back to a place that was familiar and unfamiliar at the same time.
